FOCUSING ON KEY PRIORITIES
Gatineau must refocus its efforts on its core mission and return to its fundamentals. With our road infrastructure in decline, we must keep sidewalks and roads clear during the winter and ensure that our public transit system can meet the growing needs of Aylmer residents. My priorities as your next city councillor will include addressing urgent repairs to roads, water mains, and sewers, while prioritizing citizen safety over unnecessary spending.
The rapid expansion of our neighbourhood has exceeded our essential infrastructure capacity, and our city's financial challenges mean that catching up will be difficult. It is therefore vital to set clear priorities if we want to improve the situation quickly. To achieve this, we must keep the city within its jurisdiction, and municipal politicians must refrain from using the City Council as a platform for their political ambitions.
We need to adopt a position of listening and representing rather than one of management. What I hear from citizens is: fewer conferences, fewer photo ops, more concrete action. The city must once again become a local government, delivering essential services competently and making life easier for citizens, rather than just preaching to them and dictating how they should live.
