• GOVERNMENT TRANSPARENCY

  • As your next Independent City Councillor, I am committed to ensuring that there is easy access to public information regarding any decisions made by our City Council and greater transparency from the municipal government on these decisions. I plan to debrief on each council meeting on my social media platforms, explaining the positions that I have taken on various portfolios and votes. I intend to advocate for the city to provide more detailed explanations of its decisions, enabling a greater number of citizens to participate in the democratic life of their local government.

In politics, the light is the best type of disinfectant, and by making this data easily accessible, we enable everyone to follow and understand the city's actions, thereby strengthening accountability and a sense of belonging. A more transparent administration would better explain its decisions, particularly on road repairs: what are the criteria, and why was one project prioritized over another? Ensuring this type of information is readily available enables the public to participate in the democratic process of municipal politics.

That is why, as your next Independent City Councillor, my support for any budget will be conditional on an independent external audit of our public finances, as well as an update to our infrastructure plan, both of which must be validated by independent experts. The municipal government of Gatineau must regain the trust of citizens in the management of public funds, and transparency and validation by external actors are the first steps in rebuilding the relationship between the public and City Hall on a solid foundation.

Moreover, I believe that the City of Gatineau must embark on this new era of politics. A new way of doing things where politicians listen to citizens and explain the work that goes on behind the doors of the City Council. In this regard, I find that Catherine Fournier's work in raising awareness, particularly her efforts to expose cost overruns in municipal projects, resonates deeply with me, and I intend to draw inspiration from this approach to communication when elected.
