• RESPONSIBLE DEVELOPMENT

  • After several weeks of touring our district and speaking with many different people, the message I've heard at the door is clear: our infrastructure is struggling to keep pace with the rapid pace of development, which has been carried out with little to no planning and total disregard for its impact on our daily lives.

    Our roads and public transportation systems have become outdated, resulting in significant traffic congestion. Gatineau cannot afford to stop growing, but we have to manage this growth carefully—with clear priorities, developers who pay their fair share, and realistic funding plans. The solution to this lies in innovative growth management, not in halting growth. I propose that we:

    • Prioritize building, renovating, and maintaining essential infrastructure, such as roads, sewers, aqueducts, and schools;
    • Bring the city's urbanization and development rules and plans up to date;
    • Require that developers contribute financially to infrastructure development;
    • Look into establishing public-private partnerships (PPPs) to assist in funding what our municipal government cannot afford to take on alone;
    • Listen to and use expert recommendations regarding traffic and densification efforts, and;
    • Reduce bureaucratic red tape to enable priority projects to move forward quickly.

    In short, while we cannot stop growth, we can ensure it is done responsibly and beneficial for the entire community, not just for politicians and developers. Together, we can build a modern city that preserves the quality of life of its residents while respecting everyone's priorities.
