• SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: NOT JUST A SLOGAN

  • Protecting the planet in Gatineau requires tangible measures rooted in the responsibilities of local authorities. Far from being appealing, the solution for the municipality is to prioritize investments in its infrastructure, such as sewer systems, waterworks and waste management. Recent incidents of sewage spills into the Ottawa River and Lièvre River underscore the urgency of modernizing our essential equipment.

When it comes to waste, despite a reported recycling rate of 78%, automated collection has encountered numerous problems, with frequent complaints about bins being left behind and penalties for excess waste that place a heavy burden on families. A responsible approach relies on state-of-the-art infrastructure, efficient collection, clear rules, and genuine support for citizens to reduce waste — without burdening them with excessive fees and overly restrictive regulations.

Furthermore, we should explore the possibility of carbon capture technology, and collaborating with the City of Ottawa on a waste management plan could lead to practical solutions that benefit the environment.
